Ghosts, Go To What Is Not Seen – a contemporary dance workshop with the Japanese dancer and choreographer Kaori Ito.

“When I arrived in France, I did not understand any words in French so I was observing gestures and movements of people. I have noticed that there were so many invisible dances between words and silence which had become the real words for me. When I see 40 people dancing, I see exactly what they are in their mind. Somethings invisible becomes visible. I have been trying to make these invisible things visible in my work, which is sometimes like a ghost or spirit between us. In Japan, we often live with ghosts around us and dialogue with them in our daily life. In the Japanese theatre, the main character is a ghost and he or she visits people who are alive. These ghosts are sometimes funny and touching. For example, there is a ghost who wants to climb on the hight to see how human life or a ghost who tries to clean the wall and end up making the wall dirty because he licks them. In the workshop, we will first work on a lot of improvisation to search to know each body and find our own unique dance as well as let our daily gestures or emotion into our dance. Then we could work on the images based on the Japanese philosophy, the landscapes and marionettes. To experience emptying our body let essential invisible things come out.” – Kaori Ito
